Lovers And Church Ladies: Women Sorting Out Sexuality
Audience: Christian women of various ages
Description: Far too many religious models for women in our culture are either asexual, or, worse yet, repressed. And, there are not many biblical passages to help awake our bodies sensually or sexually…with one notable exception. In this workshop we will playfully explore the stereotypical “Church Lady” alongside the unnamed female character from the “Song of Songs.” As the leader employs drama and poetry we will be able to laugh at our quandary, learn how to more fully awaken to the beauty of our physical selves, and thus embrace our sensuality as Divine gift.
At National Women’s Quadrennial (UCC and DoC) June 2010
Being Sexual Women in a Hook-Up Culture
Audience: Young adult women (college age and singles especially)
Description: It’s a sexual jungle out there for young single women: frat parties, date rape drugs, pornography and violence and hooking up. Then, there are eating disorders, sexually transmitted diseases and the ever-present objectification of the female body. So, what does it mean to embrace our beautiful, sensual and sexual selves, and appreciate pleasure in the midst of this reality? How can Christian women be as “wise as serpents” without submitting to repression or fear of our bodies?
At National Women’s Quadrennial (UCC and DoC) June 2010.
How Can We Help if we Don’t Understand:
